A family-owned operation that started from the ground up.

We’re a family that has been four-wheel drive enthusiasts from the beginning. Since the early seventies, we’ve been involved in four-wheel drive clubs and we are one of the original families to establish the former Alberta Mud Bog Association, which has since evolved into the Canadian Mud Racing Association.

It all began, when George Allen, a Certified Technician was working at a GM dealership and building his own 4×4 in his garage at home. George was always looking for quality parts for his 4×4, as he was always pushing it beyond the limits. His search for good suppliers in the area was limited, which fueled his dream to open a 4 wheel drive shop of his own.

So it began in 1985.

When the opportunity arose, George pushed his toolbox across the street to a vacant building. George’s decision was irrational, as he did not have the finances to start a company. But he made it work, and with hard work and many sacrifices, George built Tonka 4-Wheel Drive Ltd. with sweat, blood and mud!

With the expertise and guidance of his father George, Travis Allen became a major asset to the company. At the young age of 21, he had already become a Certified Technician. Unfortunately, the family was struck with devastation in 1995 with his passing.

His Daughter Chyloe Bootsman along with Son-In-Law David Bootsman have stepped up and took the reigns to the business she was born into. She has made this industry her passion and continues to move the company forward to the next generation, but still continuing with “old school values”, upholding the high level of service and expertise that Tonka is known for.

Today, with many upgrades and renovations, the family holds high recognition for their committed and dedicated staff. A staff that understands the true definition of teamwork.
